vata balancing foods~~ sweet, salty, and sour tastes~~ heavy, oily, moist, hot food such as soups, stews, and cooked grains, avocados, beets, carrots, pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, bananas, dates, figs, grapes,  grapefruits, berries, lemons, limes, mangoes, papaya, peaches, tangerines, ghee, oils, nuts, amaranth, buckwheat, millet, oats, quinoa, brown rice, herbal teas, anise, asafetida (hing), basil, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, fennel, ginger, saffron, tumeric. These are all great foods to emphasize for vata time of year and vata doshic people.

vata imbalancing foods~~ bitter, astringent and pungent tastes~~ light, cold, dry, instant, processed, carbonated beverages, fast foods, toast, popcorn, sprouts, raw leafy salads, green smoothies, beans, caffeine, rice cakes, etc. These foods are best to be avoided during vata season or with high vata individuals.

vata balancing practices~~ create a rhythmic schedule for your daily routine with sleep, meals, exercise and work, get plenty of rest, do not over extend oneself or create a busy life, oil massage, oil nasya, daily meditation and ujjayi pranayama.
